I'm hooked on classics!

My mom told me that she loves listening to Mozart and Beethoven when I was still inside her womb. Then in kinder, my dad used to read me some classical bedtime stories before i sleep. Grade school when he started sharing some classical novels. No wonder, why my dad's the best. He made sure he reads one book to me before we sleep even if he's tired and busy. awww... Love yah dad! Grade one when i started singing disney classics. High school when i started learning classic jazz. I also love watching classical concerts. In fact, I ushered Mr.Sal Malaki's Concert in Meralco theatre, i went upstage and gave him a bouquet. Damn he has a great voice! I was also there when Andrea Bocelli had his first concert here in manila. You see? I grew up in a classic way. lol! I love classics, they're timeless and truly a work of art.

LOVE STORY: A CLASSIC REMEMBERED

Summer 2008 when Astrovision made a big sale on vcds and dvds, that's when I started collecting classic films. Take note, i mean "film", not movie. There's a big difference between the two. Moving on, I've bought ten vcds on my first batch of collection namely: Sound of Music, The Nun, Cleopatra, Gone with the Wind, The Godfather, Victor/Victoria, Chiti Bang Bang, Streetcar named Desire, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Fiddler on the Roof. I've watched most of them already but bought it still for the sake of collecting original classic films. Last Sunday, I went to Metrowalk for a gig. During breaktime, i went up to the mall to buy a few dvd series. Then guess what i've found?! LOVE STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my, I grabbed it and hold it tight, like no one else has to buy it. I found a rare, hard to find classic which I've been looking since last last year. Hmmm, as the saying goes, surprises come up when you least expect them. After my gig, I hurried home to watch it. At the middle of the story, not reaching the climax yet, my tears began to fall. You won't believe, my tears fell continuosly till the end. I never cried so much like this to a film. I mean, I cried in I am Sam, The Notebook, If Only and 50 1st dates but never cried so much like this.

Love Story is a tearjerker love story between a Harvard pre-law hockey player Oliver Barrett IV (Ryan O'Neal) and Radcliffe music student Jenny Cavilleri (Ali MacGraw). These two have different economic backgrounds. Oliver's a preppy millionaire and Jenny's a simple smart musician. The couple was so happy together and decided to get married. The obstacle comes in when Oliver introduced Jenny to his family. His rich, powerful and snobbish father objects (marriage) and threatens to cut off funding. The two young lovers marry and started a new and simple life. They first moved into a small apartment in Cambridge before Oliver was hired by a New York law firm and they moved to the city.

The film has so many touching and remembered scenes. After meeting many obstacles and making sacrifices, Jenny is diagnosed as terminally ill when she is tested for pregnancy. Jenny dies in Oliver's arms at the hospital in a tear-inducing closing. She makes a last request of him: "You, after all - you're going to be a merry widower." "I won't be merry," he responds. She replies: "Yes, you will be. I want you to be merry. You'll be merry, okay?"

In the final scene, Oliver quotes his late wife, when speaking to his father about their past misunderstandings. After his father tells him he's sorry that she has died, Oliver responds, "Love means never having to say you're sorry." Awww.. that is my most favorite line on the film. The film ended with an award winning musical score...

Where do i begin
To tell the story
Of how greatful love can be
The sweet love story
That is older than the sea
That sings the truth about the love she brings to me
Where do i start

With the first hello
She gave the meaning
To this empty world of mine
That never did
Another love another time
She came into my life
And made a living fine
She fills my heart

She fills my heart
With very special things
With angel songs
With wild imaginings
She fills my soul
With soo much love
That anywhere i go
Im never lonely
With her along who could b lonely
I reach for her hand
Its always there

How long does it last
Can love be measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers no
But this much i can say
I know ill need her till this love song burn away
And she;ll b there...
How long does it last
Can love b measured by the hours in a day
I have no answers no
But this much i can say
I know ill need her till this love song burn away
And she'll be there...

I was carried away, I felt the love, the pain, and the sacrifices in the story. I highly recommend it to the young generations today. I swear, This is the greatest love story ever made!!! Two thumbs up, standing ovation and high five for this film. Love it!
